sucking back on my latte (beautifully poured by your's truly) and trying to stay warm, the cold winter snow has begun to melt away with the temperature hovering at around 34°f. these storms that were coming through have created havoc amongst those that weren't "quite" ready.

this week has seen a full 5 days (counting tomorrow) of snow days for many kids around the area.

on the drive home

Tuesday, January 29, 2008

it's been snowing basically nonstop today. a slight break for maybe about ten minutes then furiously came back with heavy dumpage. coffee...mmmm...keeping me warm. after work, go do some grocery shopping and then snowblow the driveway and sidewalks.
sunday, the roads were treacherous after clouds dumped an impressive amount of snow. the conditions were terrible with that of ice and snow and water everywhere. everyone was encouraged to stay indoors and off the roads to be safe.

today, there's another snow storm is heading our way with the possibility of another 5 inches being dropped. then there's a break between storms tomorrow with another coming on thursday. apparently, our snowfall is about to match the snowfall from the winter of '92 - '93 (that was a lot of snow).

next week the temps are supposed to start warming up and a big thaw will begin. everything will be sopping wet and soaked right through. . .

are you a trekkie? 5 facts about the new movie.
the week before last we had a couple huge storms come through that dropped a few feet of snow. a snow day came and went and then warmer temperatures brought rain and melted away the snow. last sunday was a beautiful day and i was able to go outside, do some clean up and tied up more of the wisteria.

what a difference a week makes. the temperatures are now in the teens for the highs and we are dropping to subzeros for the lows. on saturday, a storm came and dropped some snow. high winds later on drifted the snow into 3 to 4 foot piles. frozen car doors took people by surprise (i am sooo glad that we have a garage).

after church, i got home and pulled out the snowblower to clear the driveway. with the wind blowing to the northeast, i had to send the snow away from me so i wouldn't get blasted with the cold white. the plow came and pushed the snow around on the street, creating a clean, glossy, icy deck. when he was about done, we waved to each other and he headed up the street creating a berm in front of the houses, save mine. thank mr. plow for not blocking my freshly cleared driveway. . .

yesterday, we were doing some much needed grocery shopping and after we made our first two stops went to costco to get a few things. we picked up what we needed and decided to have some lunch there. i went and filled all the drink cups and handed each cup to it's rightful owner. the sprite, the monkey and i all had coke and rin had diet coke. the tadpole drank some water.

after we got done eating, i went and refilled the drinks, popped the lids to tell us what was regular coke and what was diet. went back, picked up the family and walked to the car. rin put the drinks in the cupholders and got into her seat.

as we drove out of the parking lot and continued on to our next destination, i asked rin what soda was mine. she handed me a cup and i took a deep pull only to be welcomed by that distinct nastiness that only diet coke can deliver. it's like licking the entire underside of a car with one continuous stroke of the tongue. i shudder just thinking about it. . .

i love the feeling of a clean desk on a friday afternoon. all programs have been made. orders have been put together. old orders have been weeded out and selectively recycled. a list is being compiled to be completed next week. old masters and cds to be put away and new masters to be consolidated to make room for others of the like. . .

don't bug me. i'm watching the sarah conner chronicles.
wow, it felt like a spring day this afternoon. i went outside and took care of my wisteria. i had to come inside when the sun started going down cause it got cold quickly.

this past week, our snowfall was probably around a foot to a foot and a half depending where you are. yesterday the temperature rose to above 32°f and the rain started falling. the mixture of warm temps and rain made for a soggy day and the snow became heavy and annoying.

i had a photo shoot set up for tomorrow and they wanted to have the snow as the background, but with temperatures promised to be high 30s and a 60% chance of precipitation, those plans have been placed on hold until our next snow system comes through.
our new phone system is up and running. the mess is still in the middle of the floor with all of our old phones strewn about. 9 are piled together right next to my desk and others are here or there. boxes (or would that be boxen? *inside joke*) are in a mishmash of angles and places. i wonder if they are coming back *pondering*?

i'm not sure if i like the new system yet. first thing this morning, my phone rang an unfamiliar ring and someone was talking to me. it links right through. weird. i've set up my voice mail and that's about it. maybe there is a ctu ring tone that i can set up. . .

working with headphones on all day does in fact have it pros and cons. right now, there is a new phone system being put in so that it is streamlined a bit better and we can intercom the school instead of placing calls and so on and so forth.

so, with having my headphones on, i can get my work done...but they are constantly questioning me about what goes where, can this computer get rebooted, is there a passcode to get on the wireless, blah blah blah. soon, one leaves and the other is talking to himself, having conversations with the thin air. i sit here chuckling and watch the scrap wires get flung into the h-u-g-e trash pile smack dab in the middle of my office.

this is fun. . .
