the alarm woke me up at 6:30 this morning. i almost turned it off and climbed back in between the sheets, but instead i sat on the edge of the bed while rubbing the drowsiness out of my head. i got into the shower and blasted the heated water onto my tired face. it did the job of taking that sleepiness out of my body.

i got dressed and put the last remaining items in the back of the truck. said goodbye to the kids and rin. i drove to ewok's house and met up with the others. we piled into the vehicles and got onto interstate 90 towards montana. quick stop for gas and picking up two more people.

as we got to the parking lot, the attendent pointed us to our spots and i shut off the engine. everyone got their things together, got dressed and grabbed the boards. i shoved my ipod deep into my pocket and placed the buds into my ears. a lift ticket later, i was on the chair lift, heading up to the top of the mountain. millencolin and the chemical brothers were summoned by my fingertips to provide the soundtrack of the day.

icy snow was on the menu for the morning. as the day went on, the sun broke through and began breaking up the corduroy. the time went by quickly as we took run after run. people starting leaving the mountain as the day grew late. soon, it was time to leave. we racked the boards and put the cold clothes into the back of the vehicles. getting home seemed to go fast and food was heavily consumed. it twas a good day.

ok...there's this doll that has been in our "lost & found" for the last week. the "lost & found" is located right by our bathrooms on the men's side. everytime i come through the door, there she is, staring at me. never blinking, just watching. many times i think that in fact, it is a little girl that is behind the counter.

i have decided to give her a name. she now goes by christine (like the stephen king novel). yesh, she's not a 1958 plymouth fury but she scares me. some of her favorite things are:

poetry readings
doggies and kitties
ferrets
kite flying
pizza
tea parties

i took christine into the office and introduced her to brandie and kathy. she was shy. i figured she needed time to adjust to new people, so i placed her in a chair, but she just sat there, her eyes empty and her face blank. i took her back to her little corner of the world and there she is again. ever watching. she scares me. . .

"on january 12th, 2007, el clinto and caleb will jump on a plane to NYC to meet up with 30 other souls in route to calcutta, india in hopes of helping those caught in human trafficking which plagues many regions of india. this site will function as our travelog as well as provide facts and links to other sites concerning human trafficking and india."

this is awesome. it's great to get another perspective of india from someone that i don't know. it's interesting to see how others react to the sorrow and dispair that indians face day in and day out. one post spoke greatly to me. what about you?

i went outside this morning to shovel off the back patio and saw my bonsai like this. it's encased in ice. an icicle is perched above, dripping water on and is causing many more icicles underneath. very cool looking.
these last few months have dispersed rin's family around the globe. rin doesn't like change. in her own words:

"i don't like change."

her parents and the youngest of siblings are in india as missionaries. rin and i were blessed to be able to go and work with them in the field and spread the gospel. their stories are interesting to read which are available here, if he ever decides to post again (wink, wink ts)

her sister is now on the east coast living in florida, enjoying the humidity and heat. on christmas, it was 85°f there while we were freezing here. and what does she do? she locks herself in her apartment and cranks the air to pretend that it's cold outside. peshaw! why not go to the beach and enjoy it?

today, rin's brother will be starting his new career (at least four years) as a marine. his flight leaves today at around 1 o'clock and he'll be spending his boot at
camp pendleton for the next 13 weeks. the last i've heard, he wants to be stationed in cuba at guantanamo. it'll be interesting to see what happens to him and how he comes out of the military.

today, we celebrate dr. martin luther king, jr.

when i was in elementary school, i had to memorize the "i have a dream" speech given back in 1963 on those famous steps in front of lincoln. here i am, a kid (some still say i am), learning the words to such a powerful speech, but i didn't understand those words. i did the assignment because it was assigned to me. my class had to recite the speech, word for word, in front of our parents, brothers, sisters, friends and enemies.

when it was my turn to get up and talk, i stood there and spoke quietly and softly. such a difference from the way it was presented. it wasn't 'til i grew older and finally understood what dr. king's message was about.

when i was growing up, every mlkj day, i recited to myself the speech, not because i had to, but because i wanted to. can i do it now? no. but i do remember the speech as a whole and i will always remember.

thank you dr. king, thank you. . .

jack's back!
watching the sea/chi game right now. 24-24. just went into overtime. the season premire of 24 is on in about 7 hours. saw a sneak peek. awesome!

jack bauer wasn't addicted to heroin. heroin was addicted to jack bauer.

Saturday, January 13, 2007

tomorrow night is 24. sweeeeeet! here's your bauerism for today:

jack bauer once won a game of connect 4 in 3 moves.

Friday, January 12, 2007

woke up this morning and it was -2°f/-18°c outside. no more snow came through, but apparently another system is on it's way. just checked noaa and the weather channel.com to see what their forecast is and they say it's going to be clear. so clearer nights mean colder nights.

it's cold. not the best time to be out. it still isn't as cold as it was when i went ridin' last year. it was -20
°f/-28°c with wind chill. got in a good amount of runs. the parking lot was maybe a 1/4 full and the snow was icy at the bottom, but nice and fluffy at the peak.

now it's time for another fact about jack bauer:

the city of los angeles once named a street after jack bauer in gratitude for saving the city several times. they had to rename it after people kept dying when they tried to cross the street. no one crosses jack bauer and lives.

Thursday, January 11, 2007

i just got done snowblowing my driveway and two of my neighbor's driveways as well. it is cold outside (2°f/-16°c). that's ok though. fm static kept me company. i figured since i was already outside, covered in snow (the snow is very fine and light. i was getting some sweet arcs), i might as well do a couple more.
the countdown is now 4 days for the new season of 24. comin' quick. time for another fact of the infamous jack bauer:

superman wears jack bauer underwear.

Wednesday, January 10, 2007

here's another jack bauer factoid:

in high school, jack bauer was voted "most likely to kill the foreign kid"... and "best eyes."

and here's a bonus:

when a convicted terrorist was sentenced to face jack bauer, he appealed to have the sentence reduced to death.

what do you get when cingular and apple are combined? i want one. kristin would rather have the bananaphone.
i never thought i would be doing yardwork/cleanup in the middle of january. but there i was this morning before leaving for work. you see, rin's grandfather is on a cruise and we are watching his dog for him. having two dogs makes for havoc in the backyard (in my opinion). the yard is being dug up and i just saw today that they were digging up my wisteria. yeah, i'm not too thrilled about it.

in other happy news, the new season of 24 begins on sunday. so, in honor of this, i am going to be posting a jack bauer fact every day until it starts. the last fact will be my favorite one of all. the first fact is:

when life gave jack bauer lemons, he used them to kill terrorists. jack bauer hates lemonade.

ok, this is cool!
i had a dream last night. no, it's not the martin luther king, jr. dream, but r.e.m. sleep intoxicated with nyquil. i don't remember much about it. what i do recall is that i was an old man. bald. muscular. huuuuuge. it almost was like i was thrust into gears of war but had no weapons, just my bare hands. it twas weird. that's all i remember. . .

i opened up my digital darkroom and came across some old images i did this summer. this is a dandelion that was the size of a foursquare ball, no joke. it was huge. as i was leaving work for the day, i passed it, turned around and shot it. i think it makes for a great b&w...

Tuesday, January 02, 2007

it's time to go back to work. i would have posted earlier, but with having a week off and trying to figure out what needs my attention first, i figured this could wait.

it was great having a week off between christmas and new year's. the time went by fast. it was fun. hung out with the kids and saw night at the museum with rin on thursday. new year's eve, rin's brother came over and we played his 360 for the entire evening. well, not entire, but we started at about 9 and decided that we should go to bed at about 1:30am since he spent the night. didn't want him on the streets driving home with all the lunatics and drunks.

everyone in our household is battling either colds or some illness of some sort. i woke up a few times over the course of the night with a very sore throat, so airborne has become my friend.

it's 2007. wow! another year gone and another one on it's way. just when i was just getting use to the year of '06, it goes the way of the dodo. lot's of things have happened this past year. many great things and some not so great. the upcoming year is going to be new beginnings for some and many of the same ole', same ole'. let's hope there is a mixture of both.
