i went home for lunch today and when i was getting into the vehicle, i walked through a spider web, from the side mirror to the top of the truck. so, i'm standing there, waving my arms, trying to get this "invisible" stuff off my face and hair. a spider spun a web in just a couple hours.
so, i get home and watch rin as see finishes up making some rainbow cookies for the girls. i look outside and the girls are playing on the swing set and just enjoying being outside, not couped up in doors. i tell them that it is time for lunch and b asks if we can eat on the patio. "sure, why not."
as we finish eating, rin spots a yellowjacket in the grass. she goes to kill it and it flies away. i then go inside and get my secret weapon. it looks like a tennis racket, but it is electrified. i go after the acursed beast. but then, i see another one. great, getting tag teamed. one lands on our maple tree and i go in for the kill. i zap it and it falls on the iris. i zap it again. it gets up and flies away. the other one is nowhere to be found. cowards. . .

i pulled all the items out of the box and they were covered in loose plastic with the items number/letter on it (ex. u1). after everything was pulled out, i grabbed the instructions and started reading them to find out where to begin (yesh, i am a guy who reads directions and instructions...shocking, i know). so, i got the first two pieces and fit them together and screwed them together and so on with the next two. afterwards, i was supposed to put the combined pieces together to form one long frame. they don't fit. what?!?!
so, i grab in instructions again and read them over. did that, did that, did that. they should fit. so i look closer and see that one is a little bigger than the other. so i take everything apart and redo it (what i like to call, "the right way") and lo and behold, it fit. two of the pieces were mismarked. so that set me up for the rest of the assembly. a couple pieces were bent, so i had to reshape 'em. i got the frame work finished a little later and started putting braces on and again, the directions weren't written the correct way, so i had to go back and redo them, again. rin asked me if they were written in chinese and translated to english. "nope" was my reply. "it was written by someone that has no comprehension of the english language." actually, what i think happened is there is a large, windowless room where sweaty, nerd like gnomes write the instructions booklets and crack themselves up, thinking up ways to confound those that buy their products. . .

yeah, this sounds pretty boring to you, i know...but i love yard work. there is something about it that just helps relieve stress (i don't have much, but it helps). there is also a relaxation to it. i know my yard shouldn't take me three hours to take care of, but once i get outside and start looking at things, i begin to see how they should look. this rose bush needs pruned here, the wisteria needs to be strung this way, this tree is leaning too much, the bonsai needs a quick snip and wire, etc. yesh, i love the spring/summer months. if only they could stay around year long. . .

friday night, after we got home from bible study, i went to go put away b and h's jackets. i opened their door, and the room was a disaster. i told b and h that they needed to clean their room. it was getting late and the room was looking worse instead of better, so i told b that she needs to clean her room first thing in the morning.
since it was 'rin's birthday, we turned off the alarm and decided to try and sleep in a little, saturday morning. i woke up to laughing. the first thing that comes to mind in the morning is "why are they laughing?" i've had enough experience to know that they are being, let's say, mischievous.
so i get up and start looking for them. all the doors are closed, but the light is on in the bathroom. i crack the door and see a mound of bubbles rising out of the sink. i open the door more and take one step in and my foot hits something that makes me slide across the floor. i notice an empty bubble bath bottle sitting on the sink. it was a 5 dollar bottle from bath and body works that rin got.
i turn off the water (it is still flowing at full blast) and take h off the toilet. she likes to stand on the toilet cover so that she can reach the counter. her clothes are soaked. i have to strip her down and drop her clothes to the ground. "thunk". clothes shouldn't make a "thunk" sound. her clothes are drenched. b's clothes are the same. she strips as well and her clothes are carrying just as much of water as her sister's.
basically, what they did was finger paint all over the bathroom mirror with bubble bath, spread bubble bath all over the floor, h got it in her eyes (they were red for the majority of the day), bubble bath all over the counters and on the rug. h also used these crayola crayon soaps and wrote o's and p's on the counter and mirror.
needless to say, i had to clean up the mess they made while b and h cleaned their room. what a great beginning to the day. . .

saturday was also rin's grandparents 9oth birthday celebration. about 20 people went out to eat for the bash. afterwards, we went back to rin's parents house and visted with the family. after everyone had left, we talked with jay. he got home from iraq and was showing us video of the life there. i specifically asked him what percentage of american soilders believed in what they were fighting. he said about 95%. and the iraqi's? the same.
sunday, we celebrated rin's, mom's, and grandma's birthdays as well. all the grandchildren played and screamed, so we left around 6 to go home. since it was spring forward weekend, we got that extra hour of daylight on sunday, so i sent the girls outside. i enjoyed that extra hour as well. it was a little chilly, but it was good to be outside. i got the house out and started doing some watering.
yesterday, we went out shopping. we are planning on putting in an irrigation system in the backyard, so i went to the home depot to price things. i never shop there, but i wanted to see how much they were.
i also got and gave rin an early bday present. i took her to go get her (well, i'll let her tell the story). . .
